2025 Call for Nominations
Are you passionate about forensic nursing? Are you interested in lending your voice and experience to guide the International Association of Forensic Nurses into an even greater future? Consider applying for a leadership role in the 2025 IAFN elections. We are seeking fresh insight from our diverse community of members.
A little bit about the election process:
The IAFN Board of Directors has spent considerable time exploring leadership development within the organization. One area of focus has been improving Board diversity and engagement to better ensure the organizational strategic vision is carried out. IAFN holds a non-competitive election to allow the opportunity to address competency, composition and balance in leadership.
How it Works
- Interested members apply
- Applications are reviewed
- Short candidate interview occur
- Candidates are selected
- Board approves the slate*
- Election is held in the Fall
*The slate is non-competitive which means there is only one candidate per position on the ballot.
The 2025 IAFN Nominating Committee will be accepting applications for the 2025 ballot for the following positions from April 1 to April 30, 2025:

- 1 open seat for Secretary (Term 2026-2028)
IAFN Foundation Board of Directors
- 1 open seat for Director-at-Large (Term 2026-2028)
IAFN Board of Directors
- 1 open seat for Director-at-Large (Term 2026-2028)
IAFN Nominating Committee
- 1 open seat (Term 2026-2030 )
Commission for Forensic Nursing Certification
- 2 open seats for Certificant Commissioner (Term 2026-2027)
- 1 open seat for Association Commissioner (Term 2026-2027)

The IAFN is a non-profit membership association. The IAFN Foundation is the charitable arm of the Association. Each organization (IAFN and the Foundation) has its own Board of Directors, but some officers simultaneously serve on both Boards. The Board sets organizational direction through vision and strategic planning, provides oversight and ensures necessary resources to carry out organizational goals.
One (1) open seat for Secretary for the IAFN and IAFN Foundation
Are you detail-oriented and committed to accuracy? Do you have a passion for forensic nursing and a vision for its future? If so, the role of Secretary may be a great fit for you. You will attend and document all major IAFN meetings and participate in strategic planning initiatives. Having organizational knowledge is beneficial for this role, which can be gained through previous volunteer positions within the organization, such as serving on the board, participating in a committee, or working on a special project.

IAFN Foundation? If so, you might be the right person for the position of Director at Large. The Director at Large is a member of the IAFN Foundation Board of Directors and works in collaboration with other Board members to carry out the IAFN Foundation mission and vision.

The Nominating Committee is the perfect place for those interested in learning the process of governance and supporting the IAFN. Work with experienced members to solicit, gather and review applications for three (3) consecutive terms.

Term: 5 years / Jan 2026 – Dec 2030
The Commission for Forensic Nursing Certification (CFNC) Is the independent and autonomous governing body for IAFN’s certification examination programs, the CFNC has the sole authority for establishing policies regarding certification eligibility; development, scoring, and administration of the exams; certification renewal requirements; and operations of the certification programs. A Commissioner who serves on the CFNC is responsible for the essential decisions related to the development, administration, and ongoing maintenance of the CFNC’s certification programs.

This position requires SANE-A or SANE-P credential in good standing and that you hold an active membership with IAFN.

Interview – Each applicant* is required to participate in a 15-30 minute virtual panel interview. The available interview blocks are as follows. You will be contacted in early May to schedule. Please contact us if you have any conflicts.
